Maybe it's Mother's Day, your mother's birthday, or you're getting married. At least you need some flowers.
Flowers are good gifts and decorations. After all, they smell good, look good and are a universal sign of appreciation and affection.
The thing is, fresh flowers can take a whileDear. On average, a bouquet costsaround $13 in some supermarkets. While $13 doesn't seem too bad, a wedding bouquet can cost as much as $900.
You probably don't have $900 to spend on flowers, so what do you do? Should you choose a different gift or centerpiece?
There is another alternative to fresh flowers - you can choose wooden flower bouquets.
A wooden flower may look strange, but wooden flowers are relatively cheaper and have a strong DIY element.
That's right - you can make your own wooden flower bouquets.
Curious? Read on and we'll teach you all about tree flowers and how to make these beautiful bouquets.
What is a tree flower?
Tree flowers (or Sola tree flowers) have become extremely popular, especially among wedding florists, brides, interior designers and crafters.
We said earlier that you can make flower bouquets out of wood, but making flowers is possible. Sola flowers are still plants, but not the kind you often think of when it comes to flowers.
That one-of-a-kind bouquet you just made might not be made from real flowers, but from a real plant! And this plant is called sola or shola, a plant - better known to botanists by its Latin name,Shy Aspera.
Given the delicate appearance of the flowers themselves, one might be mistaken to think that the only flowers are made from the leaves of the single plant. In fact, manufacturers use the inside of the stem of the only plant.
Thin creamy sheets are what flowers can be made from. However, sometimes the bark is not removed from the leaves, resulting in double flowers called skin (or bark) flowers.
Salt tree flowers hardly have stems. Stemless buds are also known as "salt flowers". Wire stems can be purchased at local craft stores.
How are wooden flowers made?
Sola tree flowers are completely handmade. People cut shola into leaves and flowers are made by people from these pieces of wood. There are no mechanical processes at all.
Both colored and skinless flowers can be dyed to produce a variety of shades. You can color the tree flowers by painting with paint or hand painting.
Acrylic paint is the most common pigment due to its low price and wide range of colors.
Spray paint, watercolors, fabric dyes, and latex are also viable color options.
What are the advantages of wooden flower bouquets?
One of the main advantages of choosing individual flowers is that they are cheaper than fresh flowers. The wood these floral arrangements are made from is easier to come by than fresh flowers.
Considering how difficult and unprofitable it is to grow flowers compared to other crops, farmers do not give them preference. However, consumers still want flowers, so shortages often occur.
Since not many flowers grow at once, shops and buyers have a hard time getting them.
The lack of flowers means that the consumer also has to pay more for them. Rarity always increases value.
Shola plants can be easily and quickly replenished, making them a suitable substitute for fresh flowers.
We will look at the average cost to put into perspective how much some floral elementsbecause a wedding can cost:
- Wedding bouquets - $510
- Bridesmaids Bouquets - $60 each
- Flower Crowns - $35
- Groom's Boutonniere - $15
- Reception at the table - 1050 USD
These five pieces are already $1,670, and keep in mind how much these floral arrangements can cost on average.
Wood flowers can come in different colors
You can also insert wooden flowersany color- and we mean itAllColour. You can send your mother golden roses for her birthday. If you want a navy bell for your wedding, you can.
Sola flowers start from ivory, but there is no limit to the shade and shade you can have for any occasion. Weddings will be incredibly easier to coordinate if you choose just flowers.
Tree flower bouquets are friendly to allergy sufferers
Flower allergy flare-ups are the result of grass and tree pollen, but flowers also play a role. Sola flowers are made of wood, so they do not produce pollen.
We don't call it woodtiltcauseallergies; it's just that most woods aren't poisonous. As a result, tree allergies are not that common and take time in most cases.
Wooden bouquets are environmentally friendly
It's nice to have fresh flowers, but picking them is bad for the environment. The ground flowers help the bees by providing pollen to other plants and enriching the soil.
Instead, farmers and gardeners can use the water for other purposes, such as watering food crops. Tree flowers help reduce water wastage.
Sola wood is also biodegradable, so it leaves no dangerous residue if you throw the flowers away.
Sola Wood flowers last much longer
Traditional flowers wilt in three to five days. There are ways to increase the lifespan of their ship, but they will die eventually. Technically, they are the only tree flowersit could last forever.
We say "technically" because tree flowers can be destroyed. One of the reasons sola tree bouquets are so beautiful is their fragility. They are more durable than traditional flowers, but still get damaged easily.
If you want to keep your tree flowers for longer, store them in a dark and cool place.
Wooden flower bouquets offer many possibilities for personalisation
existsart composition in flowers, but you can arrange your bouquets in all colors and flowers. We mentioned how well wooden flowers lend themselves to DIY.
Even the softest wood is stiffer than fresh flowers, and the sole can be painted any color. The average person does not need the skilled hand that a florist needs.
If you want, you can match red roses and lavender. A dotted peony bouquet is a theoretically available option. Your flowers are limitedjust your imagination, Frankly speaking.
You can place Sola Flowers anywhere
Containers for fresh flowers are very popular. You need to choose something that holds water. However, a wooden bouquet of flowers does not require such attention.
You can only put tree flowersat. If you want a wooden farm theme for your wedding, try wooden boxes. If you want a more homely style, you can use an electric kettle.
Terracotta pots are viable options no matter what kind of tree flowers you have. Terracotta pots do not have an internal seal, thanks to which the soil dries quickly. Tree flowers do not require watering or soil.
The only limitation in growing tree flowers is that they cannot be in very sunny places.
Direct sunlight can fade the color of your tree flowers.
How realistic are the tree flowers?
How your salt flowers really look depends on the quality. Cheaper sole flowers won't necessarily look bad, but they may not look as realistic as fresh flowers.
However, higher quality florets may seem indistinguishable from their fresh-cut counterparts.
You don't have to worry about the bouquets being wooden or stiff, regardless of quality. The spongy Sola wood cores are soft and supple to the touch.
How to arrange a wooden bouquet of flowers?
The first thing you need to do is gather all the materials and tools. If you already have everything with you, you don't need to look for them when making a bouquet.
Here is a list of the materials and tools you will need:
- Wooden flowers
- Filler and greens
- Thread shot
- Stem covers
- Hot glue
- Handle wrap
- floral tape
- Glue gun
- Stem cutting machines
Assembling a bouquet does not require many elements or a lot of work. The following steps will show you how easy it can be to lay flower soles.
Step one: Organize your materials and tools
The first step should be planning what colors (if any) you want to use. Also, have at least an idea of how many flowers you want before you start your craft project.
After the planning phase, gather all the tools and materials and arrange them so that they are easily accessible.
Try not to have all your tools together so you don't get stuck in a pile looking for what you need. It is also best to have a glue gun attached. You don't want to be stuck waiting for the glue to melt.
Step Two: Prepare the filler flowers and ribbon
Preparing the tape and filler material in advance makes the cleaning process simpler and less stressful.
Usually the first step is to cut the tape. Your pieces of tape should be about 12 inch intervals. The pre-cut tape will be easier to apply to the bouquet if necessary.
The second task is to prepare filler and greens. If you didn't knowfiller plantsthey have distinct clusters of flowers on single stems or in flower heads.
Filler plants are also known as "traditional flowers" because they fill the space between larger showy flowers. Baby's breath and poppies are popular filler flowers.
Transitional flowers occur in mass arrangements, so they must be divided into smaller portions. The filler tufts can be of any size. Professionals can select smaller clusters that produce a single flower head.
You can make transitional groups of flowers as large or small as you like.
Step Three: Add flower stems
I hope you had your gun at this point. Otherwise, your work will stop.
When your glue is hot, you can move on to gluing. Take the flower you plan to start with and add a small dot of glue to the back of the flower.
Twist the stem at the base of the flower. Be careful not to burn yourself and keep a gentle rotating motion. The branch will only slide into the bottom about half an inch.
You collect the rest of the tree flowers in the same way as the first one.
Step four: assembling the bouquet
Here's the fun part. Now you can make a wonderful bouquet of wooden flowers.
Once all the stems are added, lift the flower and use your free hand to add more flowers. Other tree flowers should spiral out from the center.
Ideally, each flower is placed slightly lower as the spiral turns. But raising some flowers higher than others also makes a big difference to creating a beautiful bouquet.
Different layers between the layout can create some chaos and make your creation look more alive.
But don't squeeze the woody plants too tightly. Filler flowers will eliminate any voids.
You can use any color. If anything, adding splashes of color is recommended. Your layout will be varied and uneven, adding visual panache and interest.
Another thing that adds visual interest is how the flowers are wrapped. Placing different types of soles next to each other will visually diversify your layout.
Step Five: Add Filler Flowers
A well-designed bouquet will have negative spacing between flowers. Find point, grouptransitional flowersand drag it to the hole.
From this point, you can continue to add transitional plants where there are holes and gaps in the bouquet. You can stop adding green when you are happy with the look of the filler in the layout.
It's okay if you don't like the end result. You can add more filler or spread what you have already put in the bouquet.
Step Six: Secure the setting
If you don't want to keep the bouquet forever, glue it. Take a piece of tape you cut earlier and wrap it around the place where the flowers are closely connected to the stems.
However, the single piece of tape will not hold the tension well. Tape should be added a few centimeters above and below the first.
Loosen the tab on the assembly to check that you have added enough tape. If the bouquet holds its shape, it doesn't matter. If it starts to hang around the edges, press the stems down firmly and add more tape.
Step Seven: Cut off the stems
you knowalmostthey have a wonderful and elegant wooden bouquet. Almost. The top half of the layout might look good, but the stems probably don't look so good.
Deciding where to trim the stems depends on how you intend to use the tree flower bouquet. If it's a wedding bouquet, hold it in your hands and remember where the bottom of your hand is.
If the composition ends up in a jar, it must be stored in a container. It would be best to trim the handle so that some of the stems are visible over the edge of the jar.
Flowers should be about 2.5 timestaller than a jar. An eight-inch tall bouquet should have a vase about three inches tall.
Then proceed to cut the handle. Best practice is to trim the handle slightly longer than necessary.
The slightly longer handle gives you more room to move around to make sure it's as long as you need. If the stems are still too long, trim them to the perfect length.
Step Eight: Wrapping the Handle
We are now at the final stage, we wrap the handle. Lace or twine are popular wrapping materials, but you can use any.
The ribbon is what holds your arrangement together. The packaging is mainly used to make the handle look good.
To add your scarf, put some glue in the center of the handle. After adding a dab of glue, place the package on top and secure.
Once the glue has cooled and you are sure the foil is well protected, roll the foil until you think it looks good. What counts as "good" is entirely up to you.
When you are happy with the look of the scarf, cut off the excess material. The final step is to add another dot of glue to secure the last bit of remaining fabric.
How to shape tree flowers
Wood flowers are characterized by their delicacy and durability. The cork-like leaves can be crushed or crushed during transport or by rough handling.
Fortunately, restoring the shape of the sole flowers is not a challenge. All you need is a bowl and some water.
You don't want to submerge a flower until it drowns. Carefully dip the donut into the bowl and you're done. A spray bottle may be a better alternative to the bowl method.
The bottle also gives you more control over the moisture content of the wood. All you have to do is sprinkle the petals until they are slightly wet.
First start by peeling off the outer layers of the flowers and continue until you have peeled them all off.
It should be noted that some flowers may resemble buds, leaving them skinless.
Fresh airy flowers take 12 to 24 hours to dry. You will need to place them on some kind of shelf so that they do not lose their newly acquired shape.
Empty egg cartons can be used as cheap dryers. Place the flowers in the boxes with the petals facing up, and after about a day and a half you can start making your bouquet.
Dye and fluff
So you are not a painter. Okay, but you can paint the only tree flowers as you peel them. The way of coloring paint and down is very similar to the aforementioned down.
Mix two parts water and one part paint in a bowl and dip the flower into the solution. You should turn donut to donut so that the dye penetrates all parts.
For variety, you can use different amounts of the same dye. For example, if you have a dark red flower, use a diluted batch of dye for a lighter shade of red.
Adds fragrance
Who said tree flowers don't smell sweet? When adding fragrance to a bouquet of tree flowers, simply take a vial of your favorite fragrance and drop some at the base of the flower.
As it turns out, saltwood disperses odors perfectly. You can use flower arrangements foraromatherapy purposesvelvet decoration.
However, it is easy to overdo it with the scent of flowers. The scent should be delicate. You don't want to feel like you're constantly aggressively confronting the scent you're adding.
One to two drops of essential oil is enough to add fragrance.
Try tree flowers
A tree flower can be beautiful. Sola tree flowers are highly customizable and have the added benefit of being more durable, cheaper and less expensive than traditional leaves.
Making a bouquet out of wood is not the most complicated task, but it takes a lot of creativity and patience to get it right.
If you don't get it right the first time, you can always redo the setup. Just remember to gather your tools beforehand so you can start creating.
Now that you know how to make bouquets, there are no limits to how you can use them!
